For sale here is what looks to be a Royal Marines Number 1 regimental dress jacket from around 1935 although we are slightly guessing there as we've never seen one before, there are no dates, we couldn't find any info on when Welsh and Jefferies opened on Duke street, google images didn't help much and even our instagram followers were stumped. Looking at the linings I'd suggest this is quite possibly pre WW2 but not by much, potentially war time or 50's. Judging by the cut, buttons and pocket shape it looks closer to WW1. The only other clue is that at the same time, in a larger stock purchase, we bought three pairs of navy trousers with a red piping ( jodhpurs, riding trousers and dress trousers) in the corresponding size to this jacket.
It should be noted that the jacket is not navy in colour, its more of a dark teal or ' marine' . This could be potentially the dye fading but you don't normally see it on navy items and the only items from the 30's you see it on are Austin Reed morning tailcoats, which was a proprietary cloth. In both instances the fade is to a green rather than teal. If I personally had to stick my neck out I'd say 40's Royal marines. We did have a Welsh and Jefferies 1940's suit in this size six months back and it is quite possible that this was the same chap, knowing the supplier we bought it from.
Edit - the medal colours are WW2 service medal, which doesn't help much but does mean that the wearer survived the war.
