ARC46 1955 Double breasted dinner waistcoat and trouser suit size 38 40
For sale here we have a really unique dinner suit sans jacket. The suit was made in 1955 from a fine herringbone weave barathea but the cut is the important thing here. The waistcoat is a double breasted square lapel shape, which we've not seen before in 20 years. You see white tie Marcella waistcoats in DB cut sometimes but never dinner. In addition to this the trousers are in what we have previously described as a white tie cut.
The myth that white tie trousers need two stripes has lead to many conversations regarding the cut of white tie trousers. In our experience there could be and we have argued previously, a ' white tie cut' in trousers. They sometimes ( circa 1930-1960) can be found with a slightly higher waist than their black tie siblings ( assuming same tailor and same year) and also a waist with no band. These trousers are that cut but are in fact black tie. This either dispels a myth we have helped create or is simply an exception to a sartorial ' rule'.
