Measuring guide

The size shown in the listing title refers to the ideal wearers size. We will indicate if the garment is short, regular or long in fit. If there is no reference to length you can assume the item is regular fit.

As a rule of thumb if you are between 5’ 5" – 5’ 8" tall you will be a short fit, 5’ 9" – 6" you will be regular and 6’ + you will be long.

When estimating the items fit size we take into account the way it has been cut & how it is meant to be worn. For instance a frock coat are meant to be fitted and worn over a shirt, whereas an overcoat is made to be worn over a jacket.

We measure items flat on a hanger and in order to gage whether an item will fit you we suggest you do the same. Typically we will provide the following measurements for a suit. All measurements are taken in inches. If you are used to measuring in CM's you can multiply the " measurement by 2.5.

Jacket

Sleeve - Measurement is straight taken from the shoulder head to the end of the sleeve.

Shoulder - Measurement is taken horizontally from the point the sleeve is inserted into the shoulder to the same point on the opposite side.

Length - Measurement is taken from the top of the collar to the end of the jacket. Please note we include the collar in this measurement. (for reference the collar of a jacket almost always measures 1.5")

Chest - Measurement taken horizontally from underarm to underarm. We do not double the measurement so a 19" chest measurement when taken flat would equate to 38" doubled.

Trousers

Waist - The waist measurement is taken horizontally on the inside of the trousers. Please hold the trousers slightly taught whilst taking the measurement.

Length - Measurement is taken from the top of the waistband to the hem.

N.B. There may be a + or - number in brackets next to the trouser measurement. A - measurement will indicate that the trousers have been let out or lengthened. A + measurement will indicate the amount of fabric in the seam that the trousers could be enlarged / lengthened by.
